About the event
One of the most animating aspects of this program is the opportunity to engage in a multi-disciplinary discussion with contemporary artists, whose works are represented in the exhibition, and scholars of religion, anthropology, and transnational studies. Their presence will undoubtedly enrich our discussions and deepen our understanding of the themes explored in these works. I encourage you to register for this program as soon as possible and share this invitation with others who might be interested. Your participation and enthusiasm are vital for the success of this event. If you are in the area, you can register for the in-person experience. If not, you can still attend virtually by registering here.
Water Stories is an exhibition that illuminates the cultural, religious, and political significance of water beyond an extractive commodity framework. It draws attention to the legacy of colonial rule and imperialism in the climate crisis and presents new works from two contemporary women artists along with others works drawn from the collections of the Harvard Art Museums and the Peabody Essex Museum. The panel discussions will explore water’s multivalent meaning and contemplate our current relationships with water. Participants will discuss traditional paintings depicting mythological stories along with contemporary works evoking different aesthetic and spiritual experiences of water in the age of climate crisis. The event will take place on Friday, October 13, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM EDT. We are planning this as a hybrid program. You can choose to attend in person at the Knafel Center or view it online via Zoom.
Note from OTP website admin: This calendar event only includes the Zoom registration information to avoid confusion. If you would like the in-person attendance link, please email webmaster@offthepews.org.
