Support the work of
Off the Pews: Faith in Action
Three reasons for making a tax-deductible contribution to support Off the Pews: Faith in Action
Purpose: Entering the fifth-year (sustainability) as an intergenerational faith-based organization created by Cluster Six, Chicago Metropolitan Association of the Illinois Conference, United Church of Christ.
Alignment with the UCC’s social justice ministry, e.g., OTP’s goal to reduce violence through engaging in programs that target poverty, racism and undertreated mental and physical health challenges.
Collaborate with faith and broader communities (e.g., UCC congregations, UC Medicine, Advocate Health Care, Hyde Park Art Center and Chicago Hyde Park Village) with similar missions.
What will your contribution help OTP to accomplish in 2020?
Provide funding to defray the cost for 60 youth to participate in workshops throughout the year in/out of school time. ($6,000)
Provide learning experiences for youth participants, e.g., leadership development in areas such as environmental justice: planting, watering and harvesting organic gardens; participating in UCC youth summer camp; and engaging in team taught workshops such as “shoptalk”—simulated adult barber and nail salon discussions that target the challenges youth face as they move to womanhood and manhood. Youth team teach with adults. ($5,000); and basic principles of financial literacy and investment.
Organic Garden Supplies—lumber for raised beds, paint, fruit and vegetable seeds ($2,000)—food justice
Supply snacks for older adult programs ($1,000)—workshops designed to provide educational topics, and to reduce isolation and loneliness. Workshop topics include integrative medicine, and money management on a fixed income.
Regardless of the size of your contribution it will help underwrite OTP’s program costs. The overhead is minimal because of in-kind donations such as space cost and program administration.
Your tax-deductible gift will allow Off the Pews to reach more youth and older adults in several underserved communities. Also please note, your tax-deductible contribution will allow OTP to engage in an exciting challenge. If we can raise $5,000 an anonymous donor will match it with an additional $5,000.
